Slovenia is a small country in Europe, but big in its underground world and well known for its Karst caves. We can find the biggest European cave in Slovenia – Postojna Cave – and also ones which are under UNESCO heritage – the Škocjan Caves. There are thousands of caves in Slovenia, that is why cave exploration and caving is so well developed and a leisure activity for many. During our underground trekking adventure, we will go caving in rarely visited caves, all the way to the visit of the Postojna Cave and the karst world in the Rakov Škocjan Nature Reserve. We will also explore the winding roads of the Karst region on bicycles and take a short hike to reach the Osp Cave. To end this magical time, we will delight ourselves with the Mediteranean aura of Piran and excellent homemade cuisines as well as get to know the country life. A remarkable experience of the most beautiful and mysterious part of Slovenia.

Day 1: Ljubljana – Škocjan Caves – Štanjel on Karst Our underground trekking adventure will begin with a departure from Ljubljana to the western part of Slovenia – towards the Slovenian Karst. First stop will be the Škocjan Caves Regional Park, which is under UNESCO heritage. We will begin our trekking in this diverse park and descend to the deepest and most beautiful parts of the cave. In the afternoon, we will become acquainted with a typical Karst landscape in the area surrounding the hill-top town of Štanjel. Dinner and wine tasting of the superior wine – Teran will take place at a pristine Karst Tourist Farm.
Day 2: Štanjel on Karst After breakfast, a »wild« cave will be waiting for us to explore it. Thoroughly equipped, we will set out on a new discovery of the day. This cave has a marvelous and mysterious world of underground formations and it will be a true adventure to see it. We will have lunch in a traditional Karst restaurant – ‘gostilna’. After regaining our strength, we will depart on an afternoon cycling tour in the Karst region (3h), where we will get to know the karst sinkholes, typical villages and other phenomena. Dinner will be served on a Tourist Farm, which is well known for its top quality cuisine.
Day 3: Štanjel on Karst – Lipica – Piran Right after breakfast, we will set out on an exploration of the next cave beauty. This cave is situated on the Slovenian part of the Karst region and it is considered to be one of the most beautiful ones and the one into which only true cave explorers go. Caving guide Janez is a well experienced caver, who will reveal to you numerous cave characteristics and take you on a journey into the underground world. After lunch, we will visit the well known Lipica Stud Farm, where we will take a look at the Lipizzaner horses – white horses, known for their grace and elegance. Next up will be the Mediterranean medieval town of Piran. Sightseeing of the town and dinner on the waterfront.
Day 4: Piran – Osp Cave – Postojna Cave – Predjama Castle – Postojna A typical fishing town of Izola will be on our list today. After a short stop, we will depart for Karst and stop in the village of Osp. We will take a look at the open Karst cave – Osp Cave, which is considered to be the most popular climbing wall in Europe. Here, we will take a short hike to the top of the Osp Wall (1,5h) and return back to the village of Osp. We will then continue further on to Postojna, where we will visit the famous Postojna Cave – one of the biggest underground miracles in the world. After sightseeing (3h), we will also visit the Predjama Castle, with its remarkable location – under a magnificent rock wall. Dinner in Postojna hotel.
Day 5: Postojna – Rakov Škocjan Nature Reserve – Snežnik Castle – Ljubljana After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for Rakov Škocjan Nature Reserve, which is considered to be one of the wildest in Slovenia. Rakek River has formed numerous cave formations and big rocky bridges. We will take a circle tour in the park (2h) and then continue to the intermittent Cerknica Lake and visit the beautiful Snežnik Castle. Lunch will take place in the castle or in its area. After lunch, we will depart for Ljubljana, where our underground exploration tour will conclude.
